Lakes of Ontario

Ontario is home to over 250,000 lakes and contains about one-fifth of the world's fresh surface water.
Ontario’s abundant lakes, rivers, and streams have been instrumental in molding the province’s history and development. These waterways have influenced settlement patterns and the growth of industry, serving as vital transportation routes and sources of sustenance for Indigenous peoples and early European settlers. Our current focus for our project is primarily in the freshwater systems of Southern Ontario. Below are the freshwater lakes we are currently exploring in the province.
